Initial registration is for two years and if not renewed the name will be relinquished and eligible for registration by another person. See - Domain Name Renewal
If you have a website hosted free at your current ISP – with a web address like www.members.optusnet.com.au/~mycompany register your own domain name and have it pointed to your present web site. Your internet address will then be www.mycompany.com.au and link directly to you website. This will also give you some linked email addresses.
Or if you do not want to have a web site at present, register your domain name and use if for email addresses.
